Co-Ed Baby Showers

Spring is one of the more popular seasons for baby showers, probably because it comes right after all those cold months of cuddling! Appropriately, the modern baby shower didn't exist until the post World War II baby-boom.  Even more recently co-ed baby showers have become popular, even promoting themes to appeal to the males attending the shower (i.e.: sports, barbecue, etc.).  Food often becomes the main event at these non frilly showers.

Here are some tips to keep in mind for a co-ed baby shower:
  • Invite plenty of males
  • Go easy on the pink
  • Keep the party favors simple
  • Have the expectant couple open the gifts together
I've never attended a co-ed baby shower, but can't help but wonder what kind of games do they play that appeal to both genders?

  1. My SIL threw my husband and I a co-ed baby shower when I was pregnant with my second child. It was a blast! We didn't do a whole lot of games, but one we did do was a pool that cost a dollar to enter. The idea was to guess the date and time of the baby's birth and the gender. This, of course, was done about a month before the baby was born, so it was really anyone's game. I was off by four minutes on my guess, which I had completely forgotten about until my SIL brought me the money and all the entries. It was fun to look at! Another game we played was to make as many words out of mine and my husband's first and last name. I don't remember any others, but I did enjoy the co-ed party so my husband could feel included.

  2. I hosted a co-ed baby shower about a year ago. We played baby shower bingo, a game with mini bottles---whoever drank the fastest won. (We used apple juice, but beer was also suggested.), decorated baby bibs, and guessed the size of the mommy's belly with string. Everyone said they had a good time.

  3. @Karen That's great that you were only 4 minutes off on your guess! The "name game" sounds interesting.

@Anna I am picturing the "mini bottle drink" in my head! Too Funny!!!

  7. I think that most of the baby showers I have been to have been co-ed and they didn't have games. Opening the presents was a highlight.

  40. I think the problem with showers is the games. No one objects to a party but most don't want to play the silly games.
